So this guy has a birthday and yes, 50 is getting closer and he recalls a vow he made one day in high school to his best friend.
“I can’t ever let myself get into the [Grateful] Dead, I’ll get sucked into the obsession and never finish college. Someday, though, . . . someday.”
Someday is here. That guy can’t hold out any longer, and he wants to record his observations as they occur because he feels it happening, a pull that will change his outlook on music and everything else people perceived the Grateful Dead as being about, and heck, this may be the last pop culture infatuation he gets to enjoy before getting excited about Early Bird Specials and $4 Wal-Mart prescription refills.
Please, no one mention to him that Jerry Garcia died in 1995.
He apparently can be contacted at NewDeadFan@gmail.com.

I just stumbled across your site and I wanted let you know it’s going to be on my “check frequently” list. Like you, I’m a middle-aged convert to the Dead. A couple of friends are serious Deadheads (100+) shows and it sparked my interest. I read McNally’s book and that got the ball rolling. I’ve been near-obsessive ever since!

Thanks for commenting. “Near-obsessive” — I have to laugh. Quite the oxymoron. I think I’m near-obsessive about this too!
Your thoughts on all of this and more are always welcome. Feel free to comment away, or let me know where you are posting your thoughts on the process and I will avidly read them.
